Abstract

The process of cementation of the Lameta beds (Cretaceous) is considered to have involved contemporaneous precipitation of calcite and clastic particles, replacement of calcite by secondary silica derived from overlying Deccan trap, perhaps followed by precipitation of additional calcite, and, in the final phase, precipitation of ferruginous matter. Diagenesis of the limestone involved recrystallization of the microcrystalline calcite.
