Abstract

The Abdon and Woodbank series (lower Devonian) of Shropshire were deposited by rivers on a flood plain on which there were ephemeral lakes and mud flats. They are composed of intraformational conglomerates, lithic sandstones, argillolithic sandstones, siltstones, dolomicrites, dolomitic calcirudites, sandy calcarenites, and algal biolithites.
