Abstract
A pattern of sedimentation similar to that suggested for deposition of the Mam Tor sandstones of Derbyshire, England is present at higher Namurian (Carboniferous) horizons. The essential difference is that at the higher level, there is no sharp break between the shales and overlying sandstone; instead a lithologic rhythm is present. The turbidity current-type sedimentation suggested for the Mam Tor sandstones is therefore considered not valid for the later Namurian or earlier Westphalian sediments of the same area.
