Five distinct limestone microfacies are identified--oolitic, oolitoid, microconglomeratic, shelly, and nodular--each of which may occur within a single limestone bed. They represent deposition in a shallow-water, restricted, lagoonal environment, generally not favorable to organic life. The limestones are invariably associated with shales and normally grade sharply into them.
