Abstract
Studies of beach sands in the Suez gulf region show that the effect of wave action consists principally in the removal of the finest grades. The mechanical composition of the parent material rather than the sorting process determines the grading range of the coarser fractions. The data also indicate that it is possible to distinguish between beach and dune sands on the basis of mechanical composition alone.
