Abstract

In this article an improved photometer is described. The nonlinear illumination effects caused by a photo tube having a cylindrical cathode and an axial wire have been eliminated in this new system by the use of an infrared sensitive photomultiplier tube with a flat photocathode. Because of this improvement, the preferential quartz grain orientation of many thin sections which could not be measured before can now be determined.
