The insoluble residue content of carbonate rocks from several quarries in the Devonian Cedar Valley formation of eastern Iowa is shown to be related to the Mg content. The relationship of "soluble Fe" content to Mg content is plotted to demonstrate that a high soluble Fe content is found only in rocks with a high Mg content. The data presented may be of interest to persons concerned with the problem of dolomitization.
