Abstract
Eolian sands of the Ica desert on the south coast of Peru are composed of coarse, well-rounded fragments of andesitic country rock (and, locally, of fragments of Eocene molluscan shells). The high degree of sorting is attributed to selective winnowing of the finer fractions by the action of strong offshore winds.
