Abstract

Mechanical analyses of till samples from northeastern Ohio are used to correlate multiple tills of Tazewell, early Cary, and late Cary ages. Drift of Tazewell and early Cary ages shows a remarkable textural homogeneity and late Cary drift, although rather variable over the whole area, is homogeneous within each of its lobes of advance. On the basis of the mechanical analyses it is proposed that multiple tills in general become successively finer grained upward in the section. It is suggested that material in tills is not as local in origin as has been previously believed.
