Abstract
An example of interformational folding in Pleistocene strata of southern California is ascribed to the sinking of a layer of beach sand into an underlying marsh deposit of sandy silt. The sinking is believed to have resulted from a higher bulk density of the sand than of the sandy silt. No lateral sliding was required.
