Abstract
Triassic deposits in West Texas and eastern New Mexico are divided into three formations: Tecovas, Santa Rosa, and Chinle. Identification, correlation and derivation of the sediments in each formation were determined by sedimentary characteristics. These characteristics involve heavy mineral suites, physical and optical properties of minerals, degree of abrasion, textural range, inclusions, and degree of alteration.
