The sphericity of pebbles and sand grains is simply and rapidly determined by taking ratios of the diameters of the particles. It is proved that for ellipsoidal and spherical shaped grains this method yields results identical to those of Wadell. A comparison of the two methods for a number of sand grains and pebbles shows that they yield essentially the same values even for non-ellipsoidal or non-spherical shaped particles.
