Sir: In their recent paper on the Nabarlek uranium deposit, Polito et al. (2004) appear to have misunderstood Wilde and Wall’s (1987) description of outer and inner halo alteration. Wilde and Wall (1987) defined the outer alteration as pseudomorphous replacement of amphibole by chlorite, biotite by chlorite, and rutile (or anatase) and feldspar by finegrained white mica (sericite) and not as "chlorite-hematite schist, chlorite-muscovite ± hematite schist and chloritesericite schist up to 1 km from the Nabarlek fault" (Polito et al., p. 117).
