Sir:Hayashi et al.’s (2001) study of vein quartz from the Hishikari mine has provided a good test of the model of gold deposition by boiling that we put forward in a paper (Bogie and Lawless, 1999) on the significance of the mineralogical and textural variation in low-sulfidation epithermal gold deposits.
