This is a discussion of a paper by J. S. Brown (for reference, see this Bibliography Vol. 31, No. 5, 05 E67-03393). Contact metasomatic deposits of the Oslo region (Norway) occur in rocks of different ages, up to Permian, but have similar leads. The unique deposits of the Haaafjell syncline, in Ordovician rocks, are quite possibly syngenetic, despite the apparent Precambrian age of their leads. Brown has suggested, on the basis of lead isotope data, that many metal deposits are deposited from connate waters, but for the above-mentioned deposits, other agencies have apparently been more important.
