The zinc-lead deposits of the Iglesias district (Sardinia, Italy) have similarities to Mississippi Valley-type deposits. Sulfur-isotope ratios for the southern part of the district show a broad spread and notable enrichment in S 34 , suggesting sulfur of biogenic origin. Ratios for the northern part show a narrow spread, which supports field evidence for a magmatic-hydrothermal origin. The slight excess of S 34 in the sulfides suggests that the parent granitic magma may have assimilated sulfur from preexisting sulfates and sulfides.
