Abstract

X-ray diffraction study of 13 Marmoraton pyrrhotites showed that the pyrrhotite is wholly or predominantly monoclinic in each specimen. With an upper stability limit of about 308 degrees C, this monoclinic pyrrhotite may represent late-stage low-temperature solid-state reactions. Park's finding (ibid., v. 60, p. 1366-1379, 1965) of hexagonal pyrrhotite is not explained.
