X-ray diffraction analysis, particularly of natural sphalerites, does not yield the precision commonly attributed to the method. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and wet chemical methods yield average values for inhomogeneous samples. Electron- probe microanalysis is favored over other methods where refined information is sought, particularly with inhomogeneous material.
