Abstract

Eighteen specimens from Pennsylvania mines were studied in polished section and with an electron microprobe. In equant magnetite, zones more yellow than normal show peaks for Mg and Al. Central concentrations of minute oriented inclusions are high in Mg. Bluish cores of platy magnetite contain slightly more iron and slightly less Mg, Al, Ti, V, Ca, and Si than the browner borders.
