Abstract

Kinetic factors may be more important than equilibrium considerations in determining the nature of zoning and paragenesis in ore deposits. Sequence of release from magma, formation of free radicles in the gas phase, diffusion and mechanical transfer, and reactions with wall rock are all processes whose rates affect sequence and species of minerals deposited as much or more than such factors as solubility and volatility.
