Abstract

Representative samples were studied by chemical, x-ray diffraction, differential thermal, and mechanical analysis, and measurement of physical characteristics. The bedded character of the clays and leaf impressions indicate a sedimentary origin. Quartz is the predominant non-clay mineral, with cristobalite, feldspar, and mica. The clay fraction consists solely of kaolinite. The material shows effects of intense heating.
