Abstract
A fairly rapid, quantitative, spectrographic procedure using Lu and Cd as internal standards is given for the analysis of Pb, Zn, Co, Cu, Ni, V and Cr in soils and stream sediments. Zinc, an element generally not amenable to spectrographic determination at low concentration, can be determined by the use of a pure argon atmosphere. A new gas-switching technique permits the other elements to be determined in the same burn. Approximately 7 samples can be processed per man/hour for 7 elements, giving a total of 49 element determinations/hour. This technique compares favorably in speed with colorimetric or semi-quantitative spectro-graphic techniques using visual comparison with external standards, and is more quantitative.
