Abstract

A diffusion-controlled model for the replacement reaction CaSO (sub 4.2H 2 O + BaCl 2 -->BaSO 4 + CaCl 2 + 2H 2 O was postulated and the kinetics of the model were tested and compared with the actual replacement kinetics. Two grain-size ranges of gypsum were used in the comparison. Agreement between the computed kinetics of the model and actual replacement kinetics was good, indicating that the diffusion-controlled model of replacement kinetics was essentially correct.
