"Wadia, in the year 1940, marked out a kaolin deposit in the vicinity of Colombo, and estimated that eight million tons of refined kaolin could be extracted from this deposit. The kaolin deposits are mainly of the residual type. Kaolinite is the chief constituent mineral, with quartz the main impurity. Tests carried out show that the refined clay is almost a pure kaolinite."
