Abstract

Sulfate and uranium appear to be genetically related in phosphorites. From the analysis of seven samples of sedimentary phosphates of different origin, it was found that the uranium content increases with decreasing sulfate content. This is attributed to the formation of sulfate complexes of uranium during sedimentation processes. The increase of uranium content with increasing P 2 O 5 -content previously reported in the literature was verified. A sample of magmatic phosphate was found not to behave in a manner similar to the sedimentary phospate.
