In connection with a recent paper in which evidence for replacement of microorganisms by pyrite in the Mount Isa shale (Queensland) was presented, notes that pyritic black shales constitute particularly favorable host rocks for epigenetic mineralization, and suggests that such organisms were probably sulfidized during diagenesis of the sediments and therefore cannot be regarded as ore-forming agents.
