Abstract

Sulfur isotope ratios determined in specimens of primary galena and sphalerite from the southern part of the Broken Hill silver-lead-zinc lode were similar to those found in secondary sulfates (mainly anglesite), with average delta S 34 values of + 1.0 and + 0.7, respectively. Much higher delta S 34 values, averaging --43.2, were found in supergene galena and sphalerite which occur chiefly in colloform masses in joints and cavities in theprimary ore to depths of as much as 1,520 feet.
