Abstract

The possibilities for using lichens in mineral exploration are described. Exploration techniques emphasizing control samples are outlined. A preparation flow sheet for spectrographic examination of lichen materials is given. The extreme (comparative) age of many lichen colonies, their ability to live in varying environments, and the fact that they exist on bedrock itself, all seem to indicate their importance as possible trace-element concentraters.
