Abstract

Metasomatic alteration of sheared hornblende gabbro and quartz diorite which accompanied mineralization in the Hitachi mine district, northeast Japan, resulted in development of anthophyllite-cordierite and biotite-cordierite rocks in the ore zone. Both types of metasomatic rocks exhibit considerable enrichment in Mg and Fe and a decrease in Ca. Among changes in the minor element composition, an increase in Ba, a decrease in Sr and V, and little variation in Ni, Cr, Co, and Ga are noted.
