Abstract

Rotation properties of 82 anisotropic ore minerals in various wavelengths of light have been measured. Values of the rotation angles for the various minerals range from sensibly 0 degrees to 23.2 degrees . Phase differences (2tau ) range from negligible to more than 26.3 degrees . The phase differences of most of the minerals are positive. The minerals studied show a variety of patterns of dispersion of both A r and 2tau . The study indicates that the range of values of rotation properties of ore minerals is sufficiently broad to make these properties useful in identifying minerals with the microscope, particularly when the properties are used in conjunction with other optical properties.
