Abstract

Cassiterite is a common accessory mineral in certain Au placer districts of Alaska. Optical studies of cassiterite indicate it is of detrital origin, derived from a concealed lode, not authigenic. Mineralogical associations suggest that the source area is a limestone contact deposit, a theory that should be taken into account in future exploration for primary cassiterite deposits in the area.
