Abstract

Discussion of GeoScience Abstracts 2-2320. It is reaffirmed that acid reducing conditions favor alteration of ilmenite to titania. Post-depositional processes involving reducing conditions are as effective as weathering in altering ilmenite and perhaps magnetite and other Fe-Ti-bearing minerals as well as possibly feldspar. Thus the maturity of a sediment as indexed by the disappearance of these minerals can be produced by several processes.
