Abstract

The most important deposits are those of the Urkut and Epleny districts in the Bakony range. The primary ores were deposited principally as manganese carbonate layers in an upper Liassic sequence of radiolarian marl; some oxides were precipitated in the more aerated waters near the shores of the depositional basin. During emergence of the region from late Jurassic to mid-Cretaceous time at Urkut and until the early Eocene at Epleny, the deposits were weathered and reworked in places, resulting in formation of widespread secondary oxide ores.
