Abstract

Scintillation alpha counting has been adapted to the determination of the radioactivity of plant ash for use in uranium prospecting. A system of sample mounting is described which has high sensitivity and good reproducibility. Background for the system is only 6 counts per hour. The method is sufficiently sensitive so that species which accumulate more than 10 ppm uranium in the plant ash can be used for survey studies.
