The Quiruvilca copper-lead-zinc district, Peru, is located in terrain composed mainly of bedded post-Cretaceous volcanic rocks intruded by porphyritic andesite and dacite plugs and dikes. The ores consist of zonally distributed mesothermal to epithermal deposits which were formed by fissure filling along pre-existing shear and tension fractures. Mineralization closely followed and was genetically related to emplacement of the dacite porphyry dikes.
