Abstract
Metasomatism is understood to be the process by which mineral substance is introduced, by liquids or gases, into pre-existing substances and deposited there at the expense of those substances. This implies the introduction and removal of material. Replacement probably involves a number of processes but only three are considered: pseudomorphs, hydrodynamics and atom shunting. Some of these notions were tested by experiments. The authors do not claim to have explored the whole subject of metasomatism.
