The lead and zinc ores of Shawangunk Mountain, New York, were among the earliest worked in this country, but the mines have been inactive in recent years. The ores which are all found in the Shawangunk Grit occur along bedding planes, in cross fissures and brecciated zones. They are considered to have been deposited by solutions of magmatic origin.
