To the Editor: In his paper, “New 40Ar/39Ar dating of alunite from the Cerro Quema Au-Cu deposit, Azuero peninsula, Panama,” Corral (2021a) reports both total gas (49.2 ± 3.3 Ma) and plateau (48.8 ± 2.2 Ma) ages on a single hydrothermal alunite grain in a sample from the Chontal prospect at Cerro Quema. On the basis of his new data, Corral (2021a) concludes, like he did previously (e.g., Corral et al., 2016), that the Au-bearing high-sulfidation mineralization postdated emplacement of the Cerro Quema dacite dome by ~18 m.y. and rather links it...
