Sir: We congratulate Dai et al. (2017) for their paper that provides age constraints and a model for the origin of banded iron formation (BIF)-related high-grade magnetite ores within the Anshan-Benxi area of the North China craton. Significantly, their contribution (1) highlights the potential relationship between Archean episodic crustal growth and BIF deposition in the North China craton, (2) provides new insights into the mechanisms of transformation of BIFs into high-grade ore, and (3) develops new predictive strategies for exploration for BIF-type iron deposits at depth in the Anshan-Benxi area.
