More than 70 authors contributed to this English language volume, which handles the very broad geologic settings of Chile in able fashion, with approximately one-half of the text dedicated to the tectonostratigraphic and chronologic development of a country more than 4,000-km long, yet no more than about 200-km wide. Beginning with discussions of Chilean basement complexes and tectonostratigraphy, this book provides a very good general understanding of the geologic setting of the western margin of South America and gives a background on which essentially all other discussions of Chilean geology follow.
