President Hitzman, members of the Society, ladies and gentlemen: I am greatly honored to have been selected as recipient of the Marsden Award, and to stand before you tonight to receive this tribute. It’s customary in such ceremonies for the recipient to describe the events that led to the occasion, and, in keeping with that tradition, I’ll describe how “I got here” by paying my own tribute to several important individuals. Let me start by acknowledging Richard Nielsen and John Thoms.
