The purpose of this collection of papers is to address the still controversial question as to the continuity of modern plate tectonic processes back through Earth’s early geologic history by cataloguing worldwide Precambrian ophiolite sequences. For the economic geologist and explorationist, this volume provides an opportunity to acquaint themselves with geological and geochemical characteristics of Precambrian ophiolite assemblages and of Phanerozoic analogues. This, in turn, will allow them to recognize this distinctive type of sea-floor assemblage in the field and from geochemical study, as well as the implications of its presence within certain Precambrian volcano-sedimentary terranes.
