Abstract
In line with SEG's mission of connecting and inspiring the people and science of geophysics, GeoFORCE Texas has provided a field-camp experience for more than 1500 high school students since the inaugural field experience in 2005. GeoFORCE Texas can be described as a collective-impact initiative, the mission of which is to increase the number of students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees in college and moving into the future high-tech workforce, with an emphasis on degrees and careers in the geosciences. A collective impact is described as “the commitment of a group of important actors from different sectors to a common agenda for solving a specific social problem.” The important actors in GeoFORCE are corporations, foundations, targeted independent school districts, state and federal government agencies, and a university school of geosciences.
