Eolianite, dune calcarenite, or kurkar occur in many parts of the world as a coastal limestone whose formation is controlled by Quaternary climate change. Eolianite commonly has relatively low strength, high variability, and contains voids associated mainly with syngenetic karst. The presence of eolianite increases risks and costs to civil engineering construction. Seismic imaging of voids and weaker zones within soft-rock eolianites with P-waves is challenging as the material properties contrasts are often relatively small and highly variable.
