The Reservoir Characterization Project at the Colorado School of Mines acquired three time-lapse multicomponent seismic surveys at Rulison Field, Piceance Basin, Colorado, to identify fracture zones in the tight gas sand reservoir (Figure 1). The purpose of the time-lapse study is to delineate fractures and to use this knowledge to aid in the exploration and development of this tight gas sand field. Tight gas is an important resource, and natural fractures play a significant part in enhancing permeability and controlling production.
