The Moroccan salt basin is one of the remaining underexplored West African salt basins. The dimensions of this salt basin are about 100 km in average width and almost 1000 km in length along the Atlantic margin of Morocco (Figure 1). As opposed to the Aptian salt basins of the South Atlantic, in northwestern Africa the salt was deposited during the last stage of rifting, prior to continental breakup, in the Upper Triassic/Lower Jurassic (Hafid, 2000; Tari et al., 2003).
