Immersive environments that include true 3-D visualization are proliferating within Phillips Petroleum Company. Through the efforts of an internal R&D project that began in 1998, an inexpensive visualization system has been developed that includes a novel viewing screen (Figures 1 and 2) and supporting software that enhance the speed and accuracy of seismic interpretation. The patent-pending Seismitarium was designed to be an interpretation and visualization tool that allows the geoscientist to maintain current capabilities for which there is a high comfort level and to expand into the immersive 3-D environment when the problem dictates.
