Abstract
Optical holography technique is developed to measure static Young's modulus from boreholes. In experiment, known point force induces micron scale displacements on borehole wall recorded by double-exposure hologram. Raw data is modeled to find E(Young's modulus) directly within 10% for rock and metal samples used. Field tests are performed in horizontal mine pillar borehole.--Modified journal abstract.
