Abstract
Plastic deformation associated with normal faulting in the eastern Venezuelan Tertiary basin resulted in formation of slump troughs and zones of reverse drag in the downthrown blocks. Distortion of seismic reflections from the beds above the fault is due to true structural deformation; distorted reflections from the undisturbed beds below the fault are purely seismic in origin and are caused by passage of the wave through the zone of deformation.
