Procedures are suggested for the optimum use of electrical resistivity and seismic techniques in determining hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity within sandstone aquifers. The object is to improve the siting of abstraction boreholes. The primary emphasis is placed upon electrical methods for studying consolidated formations from which there has been good core recovery, and within which intergranular flow is important. The recommendations are based upon experience gained during hydrogeological and geophysical investigations of the Bunter Sandstone in the Fylde area of northwest Lancashire, England.
